Truth be told, it feels more like a project from David Lynch than an action-packed anime about giant robots. It goes without saying that the original anime is a genre classic, but does it deserve such high praise?
This is where the Rebuild series of films comes in. The Rebuild of Evangelion movies look gorgeous, but they reinterpret the source material in surprising ways. Each film takes greater liberties and with where Evangelion 3. Endings are everything and unfortunately a poor one is enough to sour the entire reputation of a series, even if an anime is stunning on every other level. As the conflict between EVA and Angel intensifies and the world heads closer to annihilation, Neon Genesis Evangelion goes especially off the rails.
Originally, a very unconventional and esoteric two-part finale plays out that really raises more questions than it gives answers. The movies Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion then finish off the original story, but they also take a surprising path that makes the series stand out on another level. Despite these obligations, Neon Genesis Evangelion throws convention out the window and instead delivers a much more philosophical stream of consciousness style ending.
Of course, people who say Evangelion is overrated just didn't enjoy the direction. This isn't a bad thing. My god I've seen people say that Evangelion is terrible because of this, and they don't even have a clue what was going on.
You need to be so aware while watching the series to know what is happening during 3I. People who just didn't understand it generally - Thats fine.
It'll definitely seem overrated to these people. But the people who know the story will disagree with them. People who worship the series are just as bad. I've personally not seen better but I haven't watched as much as a lot of people, and I'm quite loose with my ratings, so I handed it a 10 because I do love the series. Also, Mjaut seems to be spot on. I reckon if you were to watch NGE before watching some of the other high-rated anime Could also be called overrated , then you'd prefer it.
Fairly sure thats what happened to me - I reckon after watching Bacanno! I'll think its overrated. Its quite common. I love the everloving crap out of Eva, but yeah, it's overrated and its fanbase can be There's no way it couldn't be. Just finished this. It was really good but, yeah, I could see how people could consider it overrated.
But, I don't. I hope they don't mess up at the remake Psychodrake said: ezaya said: I hope they don't mess up at the remake It might've just been me who couldn't comprehend it even though I watched the last part of the series 3 times , but I really enjoyed everything in it up till that part.
Even if I took time to write alot of intelligent words of deep thought and meaning in my signature, would you really care to read and comment on it? No way. NGE was one of my first animes and I hated it because of the end, although besides it, the series was very thrilling.

As a kid Evangelion was one of those things I was dying to see, but I had no means of doing it. When I was in my early teens I wanted the DVDs but it was too big of an investment to make, that is until the platinum release came out and I checked it out. Fly me to the Moon is definitely missed and is an essential part of the show, I would actually play the song after each episode since it does help you digest everything you just saw.
Asuka has grown on me from someone I disliked to someone I understand. The supporting cast from Misato to Kaji or Commander Ikari are all great characters that you enjoy watching. But even without it this third time I was able to piece everything together much better.
The show does excel with great music and atmosphere, those grasshoppers? But it does make more sense the more times you watch it since you get more context.
I love the final episodes, they leave so much to interpret and are better than just any regular Kaiju fight. It is weird, for a bit it almost feels like a continuation of the last two episodes with it just being weird recycled footage but then it just seems like random clips.
It does feel a bit more Eva like in the second half and it does provide a good ending that feels cinematic.
