Why did kokinis get fired

And it is this fall guy approach that appears to be the basis for all of this moving and shaking. When the news hit last night that Kokinis had been relieved of his duties, my wife quickly stated that it was like someone just reminded Randy Lerner that he owned an NFL franchise.

I posted this note on Twitter and it quickly received a few laughs, but it is sadly true. We go years of putrid football and now Lerner decides to hang out in the tunnel and start firing front office members mid-season? It is becoming more evident that while Eric Mangini hand picked George Kokinis that the two became not-so friendly through the season. There are rumors — though unfounded — that Kokinis was completely unaware that Braylon Edwards had been traded, and found out about the trade while watching television.

To get Kokinis from Baltimore, the Browns had to guarantee that Kokinis was going to have final say on the man roster; something that obviously was not the case. Alas, while Randy Lerner is sending a message to this management team, he is doing so by firing a guy that apparently had no say in any of the moves that have led to what is now a football team with the worst starting quarterback in the NFL.

Could he have done something that actually violated his agreement with the Browns that is not being reported as of now? Glazer thinks so. Apparently, Lerner hopes so. Otherwise, it could be another check being cut for the next few years. We heard that the Browns had been in talks with long-time front office warrior Ernie Accorsi.

The only thing there is that Holmgren definitely has the personality experience to stand up to Mangini, and has the coaching resume to back up his words. Filed under:. Why Was George Kokinis Fired? Reports out of Cleveland on Monday night say George Kokinis has been fired as general manager of the Browns. Kokinis was reportedly escorted out of the team's practice facility in Berea, Ohio, by security personnel.

He was hired in January at the urging of head coach Eric Mangini, but had kept mostly a low profile in his 10 months with the team. Kokinis' departure comes on the heels of owner Randy Lerner's firing of Erin O'Brien, director of team operations, who had also been hired based on Mangini's recommendation. Browns fans have been particularly vocal in this, the 11th season since Cleveland's return to the NFL.

The boycott idea is gaining steam, and the duo behind it have earned an audience with Lerner this week.
