When dobby dies

He screamed for help, but it was too late. Dobby collapsed, and Harry managed to lie him on the grass. With a little shudder and a whisper of Harry's name, Dobby died. Ron had taken Hermione inside. Harry pulled the knife from Dobby's chest, wrapped his jacket around his body, and then began digging a grave by hand at the end of the garden.

The others returned to the cottage. A while later, Ron and Dean came back and helped Harry dig. Harry remembered Dumbledore's grand funeral , and thought that Dobby deserved one just like it. Harry took off his jacket and wrapped it around Dobby's corpse, Ron humbly took off his shoes and socks and put them on Dobby's feet, and Dean put a hat on Dobby, covering his face.

Once the grave was complete, Hermione and the others from the cottage joined them for the burial. Luna closed Dobby's eyes, and began the eulogy for the house-elf who had rescued them. Ron, Dean, and Harry also gave their thanks, and then Harry requested a moment alone at the grave. While Harry Potter dug Dobby's grave, he was aware of Lord Voldemort's thoughts through their connection , but his grief for Dobby blocked out most of the rage Voldemort was feeling over his escape.

The devastating loss also forced Harry to come to his senses; he was no longer obsessed with the Deathly Hallows and was reminded that Albus Dumbledore had instructed him to find the Horcruxes.

However, he also became aware that Voldemort was searching for the Elder Wand. His mind clear, Harry realised what he, Ron , and Hermione had to do next: find the Horcrux in Bellatrix Lestrange 's vault in Gringotts.

Because Sirius has been imprisoned for killing twelve muggles and his betrayal of the Potters , it seems Sirius is on his way to Hogwarts to finish the job.

Of course, it is learned that Peter Pettigrew is the true source of Sirius' rage and it is Pettigrew that he seeks. No one seems willing to believe Sirius' tale and still assume him to be the killer. With the twelve years he has spent in Azkaban, they believe him to be even more dangerous.

Coming from a long line of Death Eaters, Sirius is not welcomed back by many, forcing him to remain on the run. Despite his moral ambiguity, Sirius works his way into the hearts of many Potterheads in a short amount of time. As Harry's godfather and his last ticket out of the Dursley home, Sirius' death in the Order of the Phoenix , is particularly bitter. Also attempting to protect Harry from a group of Death Eaters , Sirius is killed by his cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange, who also kills Dobby.

Sirius and Dobby are not linked only because of their killer, but because of the mistreatment they suffered that is never fully redeemed. One of the most heartbreaking aspects of Dobby's death is that the circumstances surrounding it are foreshadowed in his first film.

Not knowing about the sock, Lucius hands the diary to Dobby to carry and when Dobby finds the sock, he is freed. In the conversation that follows, Dobby asks Harry how he could possibly repay his kindness. In return, Harry only asks that Dobby promise to never try and save his life again. Considering the danger Harry endured to return to Hogwarts because of Dobby's excessiveness, it was a reasonable request.

Of course, Dobby does die protecting Harry. During their escape, Bellatrix Lestrange attempts to stop Dobby and Harry by throwing her knife at them. At first, it seems they have gotten away victoriously until it is discovered that her knife is lodged in Dobby's chest. Despite their magical ability, pure-blood supremacists were prone to be very hostile towards both Muggle-borns, as well as those that were accepting of them, fearing that the promotion and acceptance of the the mixture of magical and non-magical blood would dilute or even negate the wizard identity.
